ADHD in Adulthood
Always getting things done at the last minute?
Find yourself getting lost in a task you enjoy for hours on end… to the dismay of your to do list?
Frustrated that you disappointed your partner (or your kids) yet again?
Tasks that are considered “normal” and “easy” to the majority of adults simply don’t come naturally to adults with ADHD. This creates conflict in relationships, problems at work or school, financial stress, and even low self-esteem.
But ADHD can actually work to your advantage.
Adults with ADHD have many strengths they can use to overcome these challenges. The difficulty is finding the right tools, strategies and support to maximize the strengths of ADHD and minimize the weaknesses.
Counseling can give you the guidance and support you need to build skills that improve every area of your life.
Become a time management pro.
Set up systems so you never forget another appointment. Figure out how much time you really need to allow for getting ready each day. Plan ahead the right way so you’re not always finishing things last minute.
Improve your sleep.
Create a bedtime routine that makes sense for your life. Evaluate your personal rhythms and need for sleep each night. Learn about simple (and cheap) things you can do to improve your sleep quality.
Improve your relationships at work and at home.
Learn about the common communication problems adults with ADHD experience in relationships… and what you can do to overcome these.
Set yourself up for success.
Learn the skills successful people with ADHD use every day to get their work done. Identify strategies you can discreetly use to concentrate better at work. Figure out whether or not your job is the right fit for you and how to transition, if needed.
I offer two ways of working with me, through a one time breakthrough session or intensive short-term work (usually 4-6 weeks).
We’ll meet in person or through video online, whatever is most convenient for you.
Note that in person counseling sessions are offered at my office in Irvine, Orange County, California.
Schedule a free 20 minute consultation to talk more about what you’d like to get out of counseling and ask any questions. No pressure to start right away. I’ll even make sure you leave the conversation with at least one quick tip you can try out immediately.
